…playing a poignant cover version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

This landed in our inbox recently.

Hey 🙂 I was at the RVT last night, it was my last night in London on this very emotional visit, used to live here. I was completely taken with the performances. Couldn’t help recording a bit of Miri doing Cyndi Lauper. This is what I wrote when I got home last night:

My London guide for May 2017:

Bar Wotever AudienceGo see Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf before it closes. This is acting.
Go see Elton John’s collection at Tate Modern. This is photography.
Sophie Calle at the Photographer’s Gallery is also photography, and much more, if you have ever lost a loved one. Go see that.
See Hockney at Tate Britain, they tell me, though if they try to sell you a ticket to enter 4 hours later then, like, fuck it.
Spend time with friends. See what they’re up to.
Go to the places you went to with friends who are now gone.
Try again the things you have quit.
Go somewhere that’s very green, then go somewhere that’s very grey.
Go to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on a Tuesday. The people are different but it smells the same.
Listen to a Saudi-Lebanese 20 year-old Business student express his fears about the future of the world.
Unprompted, tell someone you have decided you prefer American hypocrisy over English passive-aggression, then worry that you’ve offended them.
Ride the tube, at rush hour, from Bank. Be like, there are too many people in this city.
MIRI at Bar WoteverListen to the sound of bus tires on puddles, again and again, filtered through your headphones playing a poignant cover version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Welcomes you to a Film Screening!

KINGS, QUEENS & IN-BETWEENS!

Sometimes being on stage is the place where we can be most ourselves is something we have said time after time.
Tonight we look at performance in a wider sence, as community, space to grow and as a place for political voices. But also, what happen when we retire from performing and the strong Family Bonds we create with each other.

Filmed in Columbus, Ohio, US this is a fun, fabulous and frank look into ourselves and our lives as Kings, Queens & In-Betweens.

Wednesday 30 November

Doors: 7.30

KINGS, QUEENS, & IN-BETWEENS is a documentary on drag queens and kings in Columbus, Ohio. (to be completed in 2016)

‘Through personal stories of kings, queens, and transgender performers, the film ripples out to cover larger themes: what drag is & means… the definitions of family (biological and chosen)… Columbus as a vibrant creative city in the middle of a political swing state… LGBTQ rights & discriminatory policies like the anti-marriage law… and ultimately, the difference between sex, sexuality, and gender.

Notably, KQIB will be the first feature doc to include the entire gender performance spectrum – kings, queens, and “in-betweeners.”

This documentary (directed by Gabrielle Burton & produced by Five Sisters Productions) captures how such terrific performers tackle the complexities and pathos of gender expression, personal identity, and human rights — all with humor, great music, big hair, and duct tape.’

last Friday, it rained in London….

And for us, Friday Night was Party Night, Everything and Everyone was ready.

559295_10153384375190727_922198169_n 579679_10153384368825727_1975336422_n 1235314_10153384366060727_1488747381_nFemale Masculinity Appreciation Society meet up no 5 was ready to open the doors and welcome the audience, the people that lift us, move us and make this a magic night. This was also a celebration of Club Wotever and all the years that has passed by since that started… The Rain did not stop the hard core fans and new explorers and party goers from coming out… This is London after all. Rain does happen. Fact.  And yes, this was London, with many beautiful and funny, sexy and smart queers out and about. Plus so many Top Hats! The theme was a hit as many had taken the chance to dress up, top hat or other stuff… ‘Top Hat’ represented an era, a style and feeling.. It was specially heartwarming to see some of the people there who have been coming to our events from day one, over the years they have followed, been part, supported and shared energy with us. Not always smooth and harmonious, but always strongly and passionate, so, special thank you to all of YOU. Caroline, Stav, Lenna and Louise, we are all ten years older and hopefully wiser too… One thing is for sure, we are all Fierce!

And as always, mega thanks to current crew, Jo, Serena, Dr J, Maria, Neil, Jo G, Theresa, Puja and Sarah

And the show, what a show! Thank you as always, Duncan D’Nut and Mzz Kimberly. DJs, Hug the DJ & Westlake

Stav Bee snapped a lot of lovely pictures of the night and here you can see some. We also have a PhotoAlbum from All our FMAS events  HERE with plenty of fab pics from all our happy snappers!

Days after the event, people wrote lovely stuff and this is what Stav Bee wrote on FaceBook, I asked if I could share and she said yes, so here it is:

‘so, 10 years ago, the news spread about some club night, where anything would go and with anyone; it came with the name Wotever and despite my anal loathing on bad spelling, i have come to understand it, accept it and respect it. it started in a basement off marchmont street, around the corner from gay’s the word, where ingo was managing at that time. it was dark and suggestive and as i walked down its stairs with two of my friends, ingo immediately told me off: ‘what time do you call this? you are late…”! ha! and the journey begun to continue after all the trials and tribulations and spaces and places and festivals and ups and downs and travels and losses and attacks and loves to what we know Wotever World is to be to this day… and last night, we celebrated exactly that his/her story, along with the ever fun FMAS (female masculinity appreciation society) part five. we wore our papillons and ties and top hats and we danced and cheered and mingled and remembered and chatted and witnessed great shows, despite the pouring rain and the change of weather to golden and promising autumn…

it was great to see my family looking beautiful and happy.
so, we continue, yes? weekly and bi monthly in one of the most beautiful and oldest building, carrying a great gay his/ herstory, down in the area of vauxhall. the royal tavern. peace and love and a lot of cabaret, my friends. x’

And my reply: ‘Awh, it’s sooo amazing, that A, we are still here to meet up & share the love and idea of Wotever, and B, London let us! So MUCH LOVE!!! And cheers for all these years, ALL of you who came out last night! You Are Wotever! X’
