If you want to share your words on stage, please be there and sign up before 8pm.

Dear Diary

‘And there we were again last night, meeting up and chatting away. Somehow there were A LOT of not so familiar faces in the room, a conference, a friends birthday? Reasons for turning up at Bar Wotever varied, not many got kissed tho. Lack of planning, we all had a long weekend and many kissable people chose to talk and laugh instead.

The music played by DJ Tres Bien brought back memories, and tears stung our eyes when Gianni talked about shame and gaining power over the virus, then singing Being Alive by Sondheim with such a gusto tears crept into our eyes whilst we smiled and cheered.

Joey hosted and  made all feel welcome by taking the stage and explaining the rules, the finer points of Wotever, and Birthdays were celebrated and one lucky Barbara got a very special birthday song sung to her, all the way from a childhood in Minnesota. T

he evening ended with visuals of Wotever peeps mixed with Hollywoods Ester Williams…all to the soundtrack of The Cure and Electro Swing….Then we went home with the rythms of Hollie Cook in our step…. and the rain started falling again.’

WOTEVER FILM FESTIVAL 3rd JULY!!

Calling all budding filmmakers, technoheads and writers! We’ve decided to do a mini Wotever film festival on the 3rd July to celebrate queer film and filmmakers. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never made a film before or if you’re a more established filmmaker – if you fancy making something for us or have something you’d love to show, please do get in touch. We’re looking for shorts, so between about 3 and 15 minutes. Submissions should be digital. Theme is all things QUEER!
We’d like to do a zine/programme to accompany this so we’re also looking for writers/artists/illustrators.

BETHANY BLACK
Unique, striking, cutting… An evening with Bethany Black is a one way ticket to a world you never knew existed. Once described as “unremarkable” by a clueless imbecile, she has gone on to astound and amuse audiences throughout the UK. Telling the excruciatingly embarrassing true stories from her daily life, through her honesty and confessional style she has started to build herself a cult following. This trans, goth, lesbian stand-up comic is certainly nothing short of utterly unique. She is a regular performer right across the country, and has played some of the most prestigious clubs and supported Alan Carr, Scott Capurro and Rhonda Cameron amongst others, In 2007 she was a finalist in The Chortle Student comedian of the year competition. She regularly plays bikers rallies, and music festivals including Glastonbury, and Download she also hosts burlesque events, and for 3 years her own comedy night at Vanilla lesbian bar in Manchester, and has been asked to perform at Pride events all over the world. This summer she is taking her third show “insecurity guard” to the Edinburgh fringe. This follows on from 2009′s”love and a colt 45″ and her 2008 debut show “Beth Becomes Her” which was critically acclaimed. She has also had Diva run a full page article on her, and travelled to Finland to perform her first award nominated show alongside acts such as Omid Djalili.

If you’re looking for an act that’s a little bit different but hilariously funny then look no further than Bethany Black.

SALTYLIPS
“Saltylips is a Queer one-man band, armed with an iPad, a mic, a spotlight and the biggest asset: a sense of humour. Saltylips has been around since 2007 with more line ups than Destiny’s Child. Starting as a three-piece in 2007 (Ged, Dawn and Nick ElBeardo) they did gigs all over Manchester (Contact, HomoElectric, Night & Day, The Roadhouse, Manchester Pride, Retro Bar, Moho Live etc.) creating havoc with their electro-punk theatre. Over the past five years Saltylips have played over sixty shows and produced two albums: The Dead Zombie Diva and We Are Viral, along the way spawning including the tracks ‘BabyBear’, ‘Whitney Houston’, ‘Wannabe WAG’, ‘Primark Song’, ‘Smize’ and ‘If Ur A Bear’ to name a few. In 2010 Dawn had a baby girl called Champagne Aspirin Richardson, who is the apple of her eye. In 2011 we sadly lost our best friend, go-go dancer and babybear Nick ElBeardo. 2012 is all about rebuilding Saltylips, for the time being as a solo project…”

AJAH UK
Combining music with gender, identity, sexuality, cultural and class politics, Ajah UK are a hip-hop group with a difference. Fronted by Lucidity and Jaheda Choudhury this group have already been making a name for themselves across the North West, Manchester and Scandinavia. The group draws from its collective strength of being multi-gender, multi-racial and multi-sexuality to create music that challenges preconceptions and embraces individuality.
Ajah-UK’s debut album ‘Money Ain’t Your Friend’ conveys a unique collaboration between hip-hop and folk tales in which words and music are fused and woven together to create sounds which represent the different styles of music Ajah-UK are influenced by and listen to.

(HOOKER)
(hooker) are a gloriously brash femme-dance-punk outfit. Creating sounds that oscillate between delicate and bruised, and fiercely raw and dynamic. (hooker) are emotive, dirty, beautiful and one of Manchester’s most engaging and powerful live acts. They have supported bands such as The Slits, The Gossip, Le Tigre, 50ft Wave, Uh Huh Her, Katastrophy Wife, Brassy, Television and The Donnas, as well as playing a string of gigs and festivals across Europe.
