Diane Torr, Rest in Power

15826216_10154487232238393_4949428711507515547_nDiane Torr, leader of the pack has passed!

She passed peacefully with friends and family in Glasgow 31st May 2017

Diane Torr,  Drag King, Educator and Human Extraordinaire is gone. We will miss her and her contributions for a more gender variety accepting & understanding world. Her wicked sense of humour that sometimes was unbearably dark. Her Mischief, Creativity and Kindness.
She was a Trailblazer and we will remember her with a big smile and gratitude. You made the world better Diane!
Thank You!

Me and Diane Torr Glasgow, Sep 2016I knew her as a performer, and then someone who became my friend. She asked me to come with her to Stockholm and Sweden for two ‘Man For a Day’ workshops she lead there,  b/w photo at the top is from one of these, she wanted me to assist her with make up and knowledge for these workshops. She had expensive taste and seeing her going out and order food and drink with someone else’s money was a joy to behold!  And so was the tenderness and ease she guided and lead women to start taking up more space, walk with mor confidence and using their voices in a different way at these workshops. I know that these exercises lead by Diane changed many women’s lives.

I saw her the last time in September when I was in Glasgow and we met up, and she told me about her diagnose and her plans on what to do after it was sorted out..

I hope that by the end  she knew  how much she was Loved and Treasured within our community and world. She really was one of a kind!

I really hope that we are many who keep on carry her legacy of do whatever we want to do and by doing so, touching and helping many people along our way. Because Diane, you did. You were a trailblazer and a person I will miss A LOT! Gender Bending and Gender Blending Rule!

The Bar Wotever Tour

As you are aware Bar Wotever set out on tour at the beginning of February and finished just last week on the 3rd March. We visited Bristol, Brighton, Exeter, and Edinburgh and in each city we did at least two nights of sold out shows!

Our first stop was at the Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol! We had incredible performances from our regular performers at Bar Wotever from Travis Alabanza, and Ebony Rose Dark, and we had three Bristol based performers take to the stage (Dis Charge, Isadora Vibes, Oliver Assetts, and Annette Curtain). We were also able to take along our stage manager Lysander and our sound techy Harry… Hooray!

Then we travelled to The MarlboroughBrighton. Where Adam All, Apple Derrieres, Sherika Sherard, and FKA took to the stage and wowed the audience at The Marlborough Pub and Theatre. This night was full to the brim of drag, live music, and love!

Next up was Exeter. After two performers and our stage manager missed their train from London… we all stayed as cool as cucumbers and waited for information that they were indeed on their way, in true “The Show Must Go On” style! Our new home away from home was at the Bike Shed Theatre, a very cute and warm space. Here we did one night of performance from Travis Alabanza, Billie Butch, and Benjamin Butch – with an appearance from Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry! Then, on the second evening we had a ‘Drag Performance Corner’ where Billie and Benjamin Butch performed in the bar area of the venue and Ingo DJ’ed the night away!

Our final stop of the tour was all the way in Edinburgh, where we teamed up with Dive Collective, to put on two evenings of fabulous shows. On both nights we witnessed drag, politics, comedy, and cabaret. All of which were performed at The Voodoo Rooms.

At every stop of the tour we witnessed some INCREDIBLE performances during the Open Mic slots that we offered… these were slots given to local performers who wanted/needed a place to showcase their work. These open mic performances showed us that there are so many performers out there who need their voices to be heard and to be listened to by a willing and loving audience. It was also so lovely to see our wonderful crew and performers pull together when we are away from our home at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

At the end of every show and at every city we visited on our tour, we had so many different audience members approach the crew and performers to thank us for bringing Bar Wotever to them. It was so heartwarming to see and feel the love that they felt towards us. This is why it is so incredibly important that we keep doing what we are doing, so we can reach out to more and more people around the country and then…the world! We have been asked back to Bristol, Brighton and Exeter…. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements of when will be on the move again!

We have ants in our pants!

The ABBA Panto

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! We want ABBA Panto at Hackney Attic

We have a dream! For the second year running, in the last shivering days before the Happy New Year, Wotever World are concocting a terrifyingly beautiful hybrid creature of the winter night city: Half traditional panto, half Abba tribute, it’s that super trouper queer mega-extravaganza, the wonderful ABBA: THE PANTO. It’s an arrival full of radical drag, surprises, spectacular performances and low-brow comedy – cabaret-panto splendor is the name of the game. Mamma mia!

Fall head over heels in love with dashing drag king legend Adam All as Benny, Wotever World’s own Ingo as Björn, that wonderful femme honey honey Apple Derrieres as Frida and introducing for the first time as Agneta, our very own dancing queen, the amazing Virgin Xtravaganza! This is Cinderella as you’ve never seen it before, infused with the special brand of Wotever gender-defying humour and spectacular bang-a-boomerang energy that every one of us treasures.

This show also include Music with Tabitha Benjamin, Burlesque by  Mysti Vine and DJing by DJ Jo Bunny! All to ABBA of course!

Last year’s show was a sold out smash hits, so unless you want it slipping through your fingers, voulez vous not make sure you  book your tickets early? You do, you do, you do, you do, you do!

Great Write up for Wotever Iceland

wotever-iceland

Gay Iceland wrote a lovely pice about Wotever Iceland this month

‘Alda feels that this type of venue is needed here. “Homosexuality is at a socially acceptable level in Iceland and there is certain entertainment and venues aimed towards that group. But if you are somehow out of the norm you don’t have anywhere to go. At the Wotever nights we create a safe space where people can come and be themselves,” says Alda and we go on to talk about this idea of the safe space……’

We and Mx Vivian Bond

We’ve been fans since forever of Mx Vivian Bond… And we totally fell head over heels by their role and performance in SHORTBUS… Many kindly said that Bar Wotever and what we do at Wotever World reminded them of the scenes and set created in that film…

A few years ago we were invited to take part of the same event as the Non Binary Icon Mx Vivian Bond and we gave them one of our I AM WOTEVER Badges…. They kindly posed for a photo.

This week we hosted our Non Binary cabaret at The Glory and this is what they tweeted…

So, now our dream is to actually invite and welcome Mx Vivian Bond to our stage.. Some time, and somewhere.

Respect & Love

And Keep being Visible!

Doing Camden Fringe – Bra Wotever

So, the one off show I do at Camden Fringe is all about what why and how… I share stories from all these years with Wotever. … And you get to hear why this show is called Bra Wotever.

‘Today, thirteen years ago I did something that forever would change my life. Back then I thought I only did one little party – little did I know that all these years later I keep on doing parties, shows and work with all these amazingly creative and fab people in London and elsewhere! Mindblowingly Happy that I dared, and I’m amazed how much I still Love doing it! Feeling blessed indeed.’ My Facebook status today

We Love RVT!

RVTAs of 9 September 2015, the RVT became the first building in the nation to be listed for its place in LGBTQ history and heritage.

It’s a brilliant recognition of the Tavern’s unique role in our country’s story, and also a vital protection against radical redevelopment.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport confirmed the designation, which had been recommended by Historic England (formerly English Heritage).

Amy Lamé, co-founder and host of long-running RVT night Duckie, said:

“The listing is a fantastic milestone for our community and a victory against the odds for our beloved pub. We look forward to continuing our work to ensure the RVT remains a vibrant space of LGBTQ community and culture for generations to come. The RVT now joins New York’s Stonewall Inn, home of the gay liberation movement, in being officially recognised for its contribution to social history. We thank our many, many supporters from across London and further afield.”

The Guardian wrote about it and included a video very much filmed at Bar Wotever….

One Queer Space saved and home to our Tuesday nights!

WE LOVE RVT!

Glory Wotever

Last Glory Wotever  we did in early May was a cavalcade Poetry, Power and Politics, it was a Non Binary Cabaret and it all was brought by Great Acts. Handpicked and invited were some of our favourites, Dr Woof, The Phoenix, johnsmith, Maxi More, SJ Soulist, Baby Lame and Frankie Sinatra

This is what qx magazine said about the event:

‘The entire night was all embracing: in a scene that can be predominately focused on white, cis-gender gay men, to find a place where being Wotever is celebrated is something to be triumphant about. BRAVA.’ Read the whole review

Get our Popular Tshirt!

Happy Tshirt Shopping!Everyone asked for it – Now it’s here!

Wotever World is a Queer Art & Culture community
Since the start in 2003 we have created meeting spaces, shows, platforms and places for LGBTQ people & friends on a regular basis, mainly in London, but also all over Europe.

People who visited us and our events sometimes asked if we had any merchandise they could buy for themselves, or bring back home for friends and lovers… as memorabilia.

Last year, I designed the first ‘I am Wotever’ Tshirt and printed a few that I gave to crew and performers. It became very popular and many asked where they could get one too…. AND NOW YOU CAN!!
