Bar Wotever get a New Manager

Bar Wotever Changes Managers.

In March we announced at our birthday party that Bar Wotever will be changing managers. Ingo will be leaving as the Bar Wotever Manager in order to put their focus and energy into other exciting  Wotever World Events. As the creator of Wotever World and Bar Wotever, Ingo has been managing ALL Wotever World events for the past 14 years. Now as Wotever World is expanding and becoming high in demand, Ingo has decided to bring in a loyal helping hand to help with the smooth runnings of Bar Wotever.

unnamedThe new manager of Bar Wotever will now be the fabulous Lysander Dove. Lysander have been part of the Wotever Crew for many years and been our amazing Stage Manager the last two. From the 1st July, Lysander will be steering the ship of Bar Wotever as it’s new manager. If you would like to contact us regarding anything to do with Bar Wotever, please email us on barwoteverinfo [at] gmail  [dot] com, where Lysander (or another member of our team) will get back to you as soon as possible. Bar Wotever Fundraiser For LGBTQ+ Activist Groups in Egypt

This weeks Bar Wotever will be a fundraiser in aid of raising money for Bedayaa, an LGBTQ+ activist group in Egypt!

💚💚💚💚

This evening we are joined by Shrouk El-Attar and Katy Jalili

“Young Egyptians are rising up! In the past 6 years activist groups have formed and started standing up for our rights; groups like Bedayaa (2010), Rainbow Egypt (2012), and Mesahat (2015) are new activist groups that support LGBT+ Egyptians and letting us know that, against everything we are taught growing up in our school books, Queer people are still human and we deserve to exist in dignity in our own country.” – Shrouk El-Attar

17973704_640932159425847_7280121347538961436_oDancing Queer  will be performing on the line up! ‘Egypt is known as the capital of Belly Dancing. It is also a country where LGBT+ people are legally imprisoned, tortured, and thrown into Mental Asylums for life.

The Egyptian Refugee Belly Dancer, Dancing Queer الراقصة المثلية, will give a very authentic performance with a twist that protests the treatment of LGBT+ people persecuted around the world just for being who they are.’

Also on the line up we have the incredible Drag King Gusher. ‘Gusher is a black drag king who performs lip-syncs to popular R&B songs. Gusher is about taking up space, challenging gender norms & POC visibility in the drag king scene. Making it to the finals of Man Up at The Glory twice in a row and debut show at the National Theatre last year, Gusher returns with smooth and sexy show for their first performance at the RVT. In full support of queer folx in Cairo.’

GusherWe will also witness a performance from a Bar Wotever Favourite, the unique and extremely imaginative Katy Jalili!!! Katy

Be Present, Be Part, Be Proud!

…playing a poignant cover version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

This landed in our inbox recently.

Hey 🙂 I was at the RVT last night, it was my last night in London on this very emotional visit, used to live here. I was completely taken with the performances. Couldn’t help recording a bit of Miri doing Cyndi Lauper. This is what I wrote when I got home last night:

My London guide for May 2017:

Bar Wotever AudienceGo see Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf before it closes. This is acting.
Go see Elton John’s collection at Tate Modern. This is photography.
Sophie Calle at the Photographer’s Gallery is also photography, and much more, if you have ever lost a loved one. Go see that.
See Hockney at Tate Britain, they tell me, though if they try to sell you a ticket to enter 4 hours later then, like, fuck it.
Spend time with friends. See what they’re up to.
Go to the places you went to with friends who are now gone.
Try again the things you have quit.
Go somewhere that’s very green, then go somewhere that’s very grey.
Go to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on a Tuesday. The people are different but it smells the same.
Listen to a Saudi-Lebanese 20 year-old Business student express his fears about the future of the world.
Unprompted, tell someone you have decided you prefer American hypocrisy over English passive-aggression, then worry that you’ve offended them.
Ride the tube, at rush hour, from Bank. Be like, there are too many people in this city.
MIRI at Bar WoteverListen to the sound of bus tires on puddles, again and again, filtered through your headphones playing a poignant cover version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
Go home.’  Shahaf Ifhar

Have a Listen and write your story of London. If it include us and what we at Wotever World do, please send it to us to read and maybe share.

I was lucky enough to stay over at Ken’s, where they said I should def met Flare – And I did! Bromance and Friendship over the years, re connecting thanks to Facebook and Now they will be here, doing their first ever gig in Europe with us at Bar Wotever! It will be special and I can not be happier to see them again after 13 years!!

Kudos to all Queers who keep on doing what we do for the love of it! <3

Flare.Old FashionedMore about Flare the entertainer;

Happy Birthday Bar Wotever!

Birthday Party 4 All!

Support the Free For All Bar Wotever Birthday Extravaganza!

On Tuesday 14th March 2017, Bar Wotever will celebrate its 12th Birthday with friends, show and many regulars!
Since 2005 we have gained a huge following of encouragement from people around the UK and the world who support the chaotically creative platform of queer cabaret that is Bar Wotever. During our 12 years running, we have created thousands of shows, provided safe spaces for performers and audience members around London and the UK, paid (and continue to pay) the rent for an LGBTQ+ Safe House in Uganda, provided a platform for new performers, held so many politically fuelled panels and discussions about things we hold close to our hearts, screened a tonne of queer films, and so so much more – all with your support!

Would you love to support our 12th Birthday on the 14th of March but can’t make the show? How about sponsoring the night so as many people as possible can come see the performance (and us) for free?! We want to take the door charge OFF for one night only at Bar Wotever. This is to celebrate our birthday with as many loving queers as possible! No matter where in the world you live, you can help support us on our 12th Birthday by purchasing a ticket (or two, or three, or ten) for the event. It would feel absolutely amazing to know that so many queers who can’t necessarily make the event in person, will be sponsoring our birthday from afar!

Bar WoteverYou can show your support for this event (and for us in general) by buying as many door tickets as you want/can for £5 a piece! This is the perfect opportunity for our supporters, who are happy that we still exist, keep on providing a platform for Queer arts and performance, but who can rarely make it in person. Let us open the doors for a wide range of LGBTQ+ Londoners and travelling Queers on this special Tuesday night on the 14th March.

Get your Ticket/s now, even if you can physically be there or not Tuesday 14th March 2017, celebrating Bar Wotever 12 Years!

Ticket Link: http://woteverworld.com/shop/tickets/

This is a gamble for us, and we need to sell at least 100 tix a £5 to be able to pay all involved in the evenings event. Can you help? Please do and we love you for it!

Thank You in advance from all of us!

The Bar Wotever Tour

As you are aware Bar Wotever set out on tour at the beginning of February and finished just last week on the 3rd March. We visited Bristol, Brighton, Exeter, and Edinburgh and in each city we did at least two nights of sold out shows!

Our first stop was at the Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol! We had incredible performances from our regular performers at Bar Wotever from Travis Alabanza, and Ebony Rose Dark, and we had three Bristol based performers take to the stage (Dis Charge, Isadora Vibes, Oliver Assetts, and Annette Curtain). We were also able to take along our stage manager Lysander and our sound techy Harry… Hooray!

Then we travelled to The MarlboroughBrighton. Where Adam All, Apple Derrieres, Sherika Sherard, and FKA took to the stage and wowed the audience at The Marlborough Pub and Theatre. This night was full to the brim of drag, live music, and love!

Next up was Exeter. After two performers and our stage manager missed their train from London… we all stayed as cool as cucumbers and waited for information that they were indeed on their way, in true “The Show Must Go On” style! Our new home away from home was at the Bike Shed Theatre, a very cute and warm space. Here we did one night of performance from Travis Alabanza, Billie Butch, and Benjamin Butch – with an appearance from Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry! Then, on the second evening we had a ‘Drag Performance Corner’ where Billie and Benjamin Butch performed in the bar area of the venue and Ingo DJ’ed the night away!

Our final stop of the tour was all the way in Edinburgh, where we teamed up with Dive Collective, to put on two evenings of fabulous shows. On both nights we witnessed drag, politics, comedy, and cabaret. All of which were performed at The Voodoo Rooms.

At every stop of the tour we witnessed some INCREDIBLE performances during the Open Mic slots that we offered… these were slots given to local performers who wanted/needed a place to showcase their work. These open mic performances showed us that there are so many performers out there who need their voices to be heard and to be listened to by a willing and loving audience. It was also so lovely to see our wonderful crew and performers pull together when we are away from our home at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

At the end of every show and at every city we visited on our tour, we had so many different audience members approach the crew and performers to thank us for bringing Bar Wotever to them. It was so heartwarming to see and feel the love that they felt towards us. This is why it is so incredibly important that we keep doing what we are doing, so we can reach out to more and more people around the country and then…the world! We have been asked back to Bristol, Brighton and Exeter…. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements of when will be on the move again!

We have ants in our pants!
