Happy Birthday Bar Wotever!

Birthday Party 4 All!

Support the Free For All Bar Wotever Birthday Extravaganza!

On Tuesday 14th March 2017, Bar Wotever will celebrate its 12th Birthday with friends, show and many regulars!
Since 2005 we have gained a huge following of encouragement from people around the UK and the world who support the chaotically creative platform of queer cabaret that is Bar Wotever. During our 12 years running, we have created thousands of shows, provided safe spaces for performers and audience members around London and the UK, paid (and continue to pay) the rent for an LGBTQ+ Safe House in Uganda, provided a platform for new performers, held so many politically fuelled panels and discussions about things we hold close to our hearts, screened a tonne of queer films, and so so much more – all with your support!

Would you love to support our 12th Birthday on the 14th of March but can’t make the show? How about sponsoring the night so as many people as possible can come see the performance (and us) for free?! We want to take the door charge OFF for one night only at Bar Wotever. This is to celebrate our birthday with as many loving queers as possible! No matter where in the world you live, you can help support us on our 12th Birthday by purchasing a ticket (or two, or three, or ten) for the event. It would feel absolutely amazing to know that so many queers who can’t necessarily make the event in person, will be sponsoring our birthday from afar!

Bar WoteverYou can show your support for this event (and for us in general) by buying as many door tickets as you want/can for £5 a piece! This is the perfect opportunity for our supporters, who are happy that we still exist, keep on providing a platform for Queer arts and performance, but who can rarely make it in person. Let us open the doors for a wide range of LGBTQ+ Londoners and travelling Queers on this special Tuesday night on the 14th March.

Get your Ticket/s now, even if you can physically be there or not Tuesday 14th March 2017, celebrating Bar Wotever 12 Years!

This is a gamble for us, and we need to sell at least 100 tix a £5 to be able to pay all involved in the evenings event. Can you help? Please do and we love you for it!

Thank You in advance from all of us!

The Bar Wotever Tour

As you are aware Bar Wotever set out on tour at the beginning of February and finished just last week on the 3rd March. We visited Bristol, Brighton, Exeter, and Edinburgh and in each city we did at least two nights of sold out shows!

Our first stop was at the Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol! We had incredible performances from our regular performers at Bar Wotever from Travis Alabanza, and Ebony Rose Dark, and we had three Bristol based performers take to the stage (Dis Charge, Isadora Vibes, Oliver Assetts, and Annette Curtain). We were also able to take along our stage manager Lysander and our sound techy Harry… Hooray!

Then we travelled to The MarlboroughBrighton. Where Adam All, Apple Derrieres, Sherika Sherard, and FKA took to the stage and wowed the audience at The Marlborough Pub and Theatre. This night was full to the brim of drag, live music, and love!

Next up was Exeter. After two performers and our stage manager missed their train from London… we all stayed as cool as cucumbers and waited for information that they were indeed on their way, in true “The Show Must Go On” style! Our new home away from home was at the Bike Shed Theatre, a very cute and warm space. Here we did one night of performance from Travis Alabanza, Billie Butch, and Benjamin Butch – with an appearance from Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry! Then, on the second evening we had a ‘Drag Performance Corner’ where Billie and Benjamin Butch performed in the bar area of the venue and Ingo DJ’ed the night away!

Our final stop of the tour was all the way in Edinburgh, where we teamed up with Dive Collective, to put on two evenings of fabulous shows. On both nights we witnessed drag, politics, comedy, and cabaret. All of which were performed at The Voodoo Rooms.

At every stop of the tour we witnessed some INCREDIBLE performances during the Open Mic slots that we offered… these were slots given to local performers who wanted/needed a place to showcase their work. These open mic performances showed us that there are so many performers out there who need their voices to be heard and to be listened to by a willing and loving audience. It was also so lovely to see our wonderful crew and performers pull together when we are away from our home at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

At the end of every show and at every city we visited on our tour, we had so many different audience members approach the crew and performers to thank us for bringing Bar Wotever to them. It was so heartwarming to see and feel the love that they felt towards us. This is why it is so incredibly important that we keep doing what we are doing, so we can reach out to more and more people around the country and then…the world! We have been asked back to Bristol, Brighton and Exeter…. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements of when will be on the move again!

We have ants in our pants!

16426030_10154573848453393_7411883699857617752_nWotever World will be hosting a special fundraising event for Diane Torr – a male impersonator who has inspired many drag kings around the world over  20 years. Tonight is a celebration of her work and how far the drag kings scene has developed. Recently she has been going through radio therapy, due to a brain tumour, and she can not work. And as a freelancer with low income, money is sparse. This is when all of us inspired by her and various forms of her Man for A Day Workshops and Drag King Performances get together and do something! All proceeds of this event will go directly to Diane Torr and her recovery time, so she do not have to worry to much about where & when pennies are coming in.

Performing with us on this jollification of a night is a plethora of our favve gender bending, non binary and Drag King acts.

With us are;
Adam All
Chiyo
Frankie Sinatra

Bar Wotever at The Wardrobe Theatre

poster_2017_smallBar Wotever in Bristol!

Bar Wotever is touring again this year and Bristol will be our first stop. We will be bringing some of our favourite performers, our community vibe, and our loving atmosphere to the Wardrobe Theatre on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd February 2017.

Bar Wotever is a weekly queer cabaret night that is held at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern every Tuesday evening. It is a platform for performers to showcase their work to a loving audience and a place for people to feel loved and welcome. It is important that we take our loving environment and place it around the UK so everyone has the chance to feel welcome in a queer space. By offering open mic slots to the local community, Bar Wotever on Tour will reach out to people around the UK who may want to perform on a stage but don’t necessarily have the platform to do so.

In each city we visit, we will create a space that includes everyone (no discrimination tolerated). There will be a show presented by regular performance artist from Wotever World, and a call for open mic slots for people who wish to perform who live locally.

Joining us in Bristol we have:

Travis Alabanza, Ebony Rose Dark, Discharge, Tom Marshman, Oliver Assets & Isadora Vibes plus a lot of open mic acts we can not wait to work with!

The ABBA Panto

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! We want ABBA Panto at Hackney Attic

We have a dream! For the second year running, in the last shivering days before the Happy New Year, Wotever World are concocting a terrifyingly beautiful hybrid creature of the winter night city: Half traditional panto, half Abba tribute, it’s that super trouper queer mega-extravaganza, the wonderful ABBA: THE PANTO. It’s an arrival full of radical drag, surprises, spectacular performances and low-brow comedy – cabaret-panto splendor is the name of the game. Mamma mia!

Fall head over heels in love with dashing drag king legend Adam All as Benny, Wotever World’s own Ingo as Björn, that wonderful femme honey honey Apple Derrieres as Frida and introducing for the first time as Agneta, our very own dancing queen, the amazing Virgin Xtravaganza! This is Cinderella as you’ve never seen it before, infused with the special brand of Wotever gender-defying humour and spectacular bang-a-boomerang energy that every one of us treasures.

This show also include Music with Tabitha Benjamin, Burlesque by  Mysti Vine and DJing by DJ Jo Bunny! All to ABBA of course!

Last year’s show was a sold out smash hits, so unless you want it slipping through your fingers, voulez vous not make sure you  book your tickets early? You do, you do, you do, you do, you do!

Welcomes you to a Film Screening!

KINGS, QUEENS & IN-BETWEENS!

Sometimes being on stage is the place where we can be most ourselves is something we have said time after time.
Tonight we look at performance in a wider sence, as community, space to grow and as a place for political voices. But also, what happen when we retire from performing and the strong Family Bonds we create with each other.

Filmed in Columbus, Ohio, US this is a fun, fabulous and frank look into ourselves and our lives as Kings, Queens & In-Betweens.

Wednesday 30 November

Doors: 7.30
Screening start: 8pm
Length 90 mins
Live Performance +
Q & A after screening with Adam All, Gingzilla, Fiona Blair and more tbc, all people within our Drag culture here in London and elsewhere.

KINGS, QUEENS, & IN-BETWEENS is a documentary on drag queens and kings in Columbus, Ohio. (to be completed in 2016)

‘Through personal stories of kings, queens, and transgender performers, the film ripples out to cover larger themes: what drag is & means… the definitions of family (biological and chosen)… Columbus as a vibrant creative city in the middle of a political swing state… LGBTQ rights & discriminatory policies like the anti-marriage law… and ultimately, the difference between sex, sexuality, and gender.

Notably, KQIB will be the first feature doc to include the entire gender performance spectrum – kings, queens, and “in-betweeners.”

This documentary (directed by Gabrielle Burton & produced by Five Sisters Productions) captures how such terrific performers tackle the complexities and pathos of gender expression, personal identity, and human rights — all with humor, great music, big hair, and duct tape.’
